MOHAB is based out of the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Ranch (“TRMR”, a Boone and Crockett Club property). Our Basecamp facility is the Elmer E. Rasmuson Wildlife Conservation Center (“ERWCC”), which is located on the TRMR property.
The 6,000 acre TRMR (“The Ranch”) lies in the foothills of the east slope of the Rocky Mountains near Dupuyer, Montana. The property abuts hundreds of thousands of acres (FYI: that’s really big!) of National Forest and designated Wilderness containing prime habitat for grizzly and black bears, bighorn sheep, Rocky Mountain goats, elk, mule deer, whitetail deer, cougar, and scores of other small mammals and birds.
The Ranch and ERWCC serves as the base of operations for MOHAB, and many of our treks walk right out of the doors of the ERWCC and into the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex (learn more): a 1.5+ million acre federally designated roadlessWilderness Area located west of The Ranch. The “Bob” straddles the Continental Divide with elevations ranging from 4,000 feet along the valley floors to more than 9,000 feet at mountain summits. This vast Wilderness is more than ten times larger than Philmont, and contains the second remotest spot in the Contintental United States (the first remotest spot is located SE of Yellowstone Park, just a few hundred miles south of here!).
